Mrs Bryant - 22nd September 2011 - Twilight
In twilight we continued to look at threats. In this specific lesson we looked at phishing. We watched a video on how to phish and then we did our own research on it. We found out the same information that we did for DDoS.
For homework we have to do our own research on malware and identity theft.

We have now moved on from doing our transactional websites in class (we will finish them at home) and have started to look into spreadsheets in preparation for our exam in January.
We got given a mock scenario where we downloaded the spreadsheets off of Moodle, transferred data and worked out formulas for "Lyonair".
Our homework from this lesson is to complete the next three headings for our transactional websites which are 'Ease of making a transaction', 'Methods of purchasing' and Ease of navigation. These three headings are to be done and uploaded to Moodle on Sunday evening.

Mrs Bryant - 22nd September 2011 - Period 1
At the start of today's lesson we got back our marked back office diagrams. I managed to score 8/10 on mine therefore I do not need to add anything to them.
We then started on a new piece of work about threats. In this lesson we looked specifically at Denial of Service (DDoS). We watched a short video on how to carry out a DDoS and then we went and did our own research about what a DDoS is, how to perform a DDoS, how to prevent a DDoS and then looked for some examples on transactional websites.
We will use this research to write a piece about the different threats that transactional websites are under.

Mrs Bryant - 15th September 2011 - Twilight
In twilight today, we continued to make our back office diagrams in Word. I managed to complete basket and login.
For homework I now have to complete the diagrams for checkout, registration, payment and dispatch. I also have to write a paragraph explaining the functions of my website and then do a flow chart of the steps of purchasing something on the website. This has to be submitted by 5pm on Sunday.

Mrs Bryant - 15th September 2011 - Period 2
The first thing we did in today's lesson was swap computers with another member of the class and then follow their rough copy of their back office diagram that they have drawn for their website. If it wasn't correct we then told them what they should do to correct it.
We then went back to our own computer and started to do our own back office diagrams on the computer. In this lesson I did the back office diagrams for shopping and stock.

Mr Sommerville - 15th September 2011 - Period 1
Today we continued with the write-up of our transactional website. The next two heading we had to write were 'Types of Transactions' and 'Accessibility'.
For 'Types of Transactions' we have to write about what a transaction is and how does our chosen website use them and then for 'Accessibility' we have to write about how the website is suited to the needs of people with disabilities.
These two headings, again have to be finished for homework and handed in on Sunday.

Mr Sommerville - 12th September 2011 - Period 3
Today we started to write the next two headings on the sheet. These were 'Product Descriptions' and 'Techniques to entice and retain customers'.
For the 'Product Descriptions' heading I wrote about what products Urban Outfitters sells, how they display their products on their website and the effectiveness of it and what kind of information the website gives you about each product.
For the 'Techniques to entice and retain customers' heading I wrote about how Urban Outfitters tries to keep their customers interested through internal advertisements, emails and competitions.
I finished these two headings for homework and then submitted them to Moodle for marking before the following lesson.

Mrs Bryant - 8th September 2011 - Twilight
In this lesson we went through the process of buying something on our chosen website. We wrote down each step and then we swapped computers with another member of the class. They then followed the steps to see if this was correct.

Mr Sommerville - 8th September 2011 - Period 2
In today's lesson we chose the transactional website that we want to study. I chose http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/. We then discussed the different types of transactions that transactional websites use. To ensure that we fully understood what we were talking about, we used the internet to write our own definitions. I finished this for homework.
For homework, I wrote the first heading on the Unit 2 Strand A (Transactional Website). The heading was 'Nature of the Business' so I wrote about how Urban Outfitters was founded and where the store is today. When I finished I uploaded it to Moodle to be marked.
